- By moving the catcher laterally (side to side), the drill is designed to strengthen the hips and lower half for game prep.
- From the ready position behind the plate, the coach or practice partner should begin by rolling three balls to the left (batter’s box) and have the catcher work on the “crossover” move—dragging the back knee on the ground during the receiving sequence. Then repeat to the right side.
- As the drill progresses, lengthen the distance of the roll as it relates to the catcher’s primary position.
- The main purpose is to work on the catcher’s conditioning!
