Technical Director, Legends FC
Matthew Evans joins YSPN360's roster of soccer coaches, bringing over 20 years of experience to the Community. Evans, a native of Pasadena, California, is the current technical director at Legends FC, a Chino-based soccer club that coaches both boys and girls, ranging from U-12 to U-18/19.
Before his time with Legends FC, Coach Evans played professionally for the Utah Blitzz in the USL Pro Select League, helping the 2004 club win the league title. He joined the Blitzz midseason of that year, from the Southern California Seahorses—of the PDL—and was a welcomed addition as a midfielder. Blitzz' coach Chris Angelo said of Evans: "He will be an integral part of this team for the rest of the season." And indeed he was, helping the team overcome a two-game losing streak, starting a run all the way to the Western Conference Championship.
He finished his professional career in 2007 with the LA Storm.
Coach Evans played soccer collegiately at Azusa Pacific University, where he was a standout on the field (while also earning a degree in physical education). During his time with the Cougars, he was a three-time League MVP, three-time Regional MVP, and earned All-American honors all four years.
And his time in the youth levels was equally outstanding. While involved with the Olympic Development Program, Coach Evans earned recognition at the U-15, U-17, and U-18 age groups, including selections to the National Pool at each level—just below the US National Teams. He was also named Team Captain on all but one of the State and Regional teams.
