Mike Bard is a private baseball hitting instructor who has worked with a wide range of talent levels, ranging from Major League Baseball batting champions to youth-league players. In his role as a member of the YSPN360 coaching staff, Mike has helped create a series of videos on hitting, exclusive to YSPN360.com members.
Mike brings 13 years of NCAA Division I coaching experience to YSPN360.com, including stints at University of Kansas, Texas Tech University, University of Texas at Arlington, and Dallas Baptist University. He was the National Christian College Athletic Association’s Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2004, and in 2007 he served as the Assistant Hitting Coach for the Colorado Rockies.
For the past decade, Mike has owned and operated Bardo's Diamonds Sports. He has been responsible for assisting thousands of hitters from the youth level to the big leagues, committed to helping them maximize their potential. He was an All-Big Eight athlete and All-Academic Big Eight student at Kansas, and while serving as hitting coach for KU, his teams set school hitting records. His Texas Tech team led the NCAA in hitting with a team batting average of .344.
Mike is a true student of hitting. Working hard to constantly evolve his approach to his teaching, he uses science and video analysis that has helped develop MLB MVPs, All-Stars and league leaders in hitting. His instruction includes lessons on self-correction as well as finding the right swing for his players’ abilities and development. An important aspect of Mike’s approach is a series of drills he’s designed to teach hitting mechanics based on a player’s individual needs rather than a one-size-fits-all program. These drills also vastly reduce the need for verbal cues from coaches.
Mike also is a strong believer in the important combination of athlete, parent and coach. Building a strong foundation of understanding in the minds of young players, coaches and parents helps to ensure they maximize their enjoyment of their youth-sports experience.
Mike lives and works in Parker, Colo.
