Rebecca Demorest

Pediatric and Young Adult Sports Medicine Physician

Hi! My name is Rebecca Demorest, and I’m a Pediatric and Young Adult Sports Medicine Physician. I take care of kids and teenagers when they have joint pain, a bone or muscle injury, a concussion, or something that prevents them from being active.

It’s exciting to be able to take care of all different types of young athletes, from the kids who are playing on their first sports team, to the professional or Olympic athlete. I’m honored and super excited to be a part of the community we’re building here at YSPN360.com!

To give you a little bit of background about me, I was born and raised outside of Philadelphia, Penn. I grew up in a family of six and started playing competitive sports in high school; a knee injury had sidelined me during my middle-school years. I attended the University of Pennsylvania, where I was a competitive rower, and I went to medical school at The University of Pittsburgh.

"My goal in becoming a youth sports medicine doctor is to connect with kids on a personal level to help teach them something about themselves; I want to help them grow into the people they want to be."

I’m a pediatrician and did my training at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. I completed my sports medicine fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Go Badgers!), and I’ve since traveled around the country -- Washington, D.C., New York City, etc. -- practicing sports medicine. I’m currently in private practice outside of San Francisco, Calif., where I live with my wonderful husband and two awesome young sons!

My goal in becoming a youth sports medicine doctor is to connect with kids on a personal level to help teach them something about themselves; I want to help them grow into the people they want to be. Yes, I mostly treat knee, ankle and shoulder injuries, concussions, perform pre-participation physicals, and do everything else that a normal doctor does. However, my hope is that in interacting with kids and their families about their injuries, I can truly make a difference!

Whether it‘s preventing the next injury, encouraging them to rise to physical or mental challenges, teaching them ways to properly take care of their bodies, or how to be appropriately active while not overdoing it, the conversation is the start!

I hope that I’m teaching them about a facet of life that’s healthy, rewarding, enjoyable and, most of all (and most important), fun! Because as we all know, it's not just the physical nature of sports that draws us to participate on a team or be active. It's all the intangibles -- the social, psychological and educational benefits -- that make the time and hard work worthwhile.

Although I may not interact with you in the office or face to face, I hope that I can provide you with this same type of “conversation.” Through education, the newest research and expert guidelines, my own practical experiences, and some good old common sense, I hope that this conversation will help you and your family reach for the stars -- while having your feet firmly rooted on the ground.

I’m looking forward to, as part of the incredible and ever-growing staff of coaches, experts, mentors and physicians committed to YSPN360.com, helping athletes, coaches and parents alike Enhance the Youth Sports Experience!
